New Format

Coming soon:

An occasional magazine on the life behind the scenes at the Festival Theatre - starting with

Backstage Tour

Okay, the official site is up and runnig, and doing pretty well, so it's time to change what I'm trying to achieve here. I hope to start an occasional magazine page here, updated as often as my work at the theatre allows. The digital camera is here, so illustrated articles are no problem! First up will be a backstage tour, revealing the technical wizardry (???) behind the magic of theatre. Hopefully I'll get permission to do more articles on the life of the theatre, with exclusive interviews and the like. The more feedback I get from this site, the more leverage I get to access information and pass it on! Proposed future subjects include the merger with the King's Theatre and insights into the various areas of the theatre's operation. If you have any suggestions, comments or other feedback, please e-mail me!

While you're visiting the Festival Theatre, why not have a meal or a drink at The Arches Bistro, on the opposite side of Nicolson Street? Certainly my favourite haunt for food and good wine near the theatre. The cuisine is international, and frankly superb. Good size portions, fantastic sauces, and vegetables beautifully cooked and presented. All in a friendly, informal atmosphere. The wine selection is good, with a white and red wine on special offer each month. From experience, the Red wine on offer has always been a fine selection, and we've never really explored the rest of the list because of this! My wife rates Paul's cappuchino as the best in Edinburgh. We love it - why not give it a try?

You can book a table on 0131 556 0200
